Mimir Acquires Osprey, Keeping the Metal Powder Specialist Independent

Introduction: Investment company Mimir has completed its acquisition of Osprey from Sandvik. The metal powder and specialty-alloy producer will continue as an independent company with manufacturing sites in Wales and Sweden.

Independent Operations After the Sandvik Sale

Mimir has completed its acquisition of Osprey from Sandvik. The metal powder and specialty-alloy producer operates manufacturing sites in Neath, Wales, and Sandviken, Sweden. According to the announcement, Osprey will continue as an independent company.

More Than 2,000 Powder Grades

Osprey reports a portfolio of more than 2,000 powder grades serving aerospace, defence, medical technology, energy and industrial manufacturing. Gas-atomized metal powders are used in processes such as laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), where particle size, sphericity, flow behaviour and chemistry affect processability and final part properties.

Implications for Additive Manufacturers

According to 3Druck, no immediate operational changes are planned: production, qualified manufacturing lines, product specifications, technical contacts and ongoing orders are expected to remain unchanged.

The longer-term effect will depend on Osprey's investment and portfolio decisions under independent ownership. Continuity of material supply and preservation of material qualifications are important to metal additive manufacturing customers.

Commodore 64 Ultimate Returns: A Retro Legend, Not a 3D-Printed One

Commodore.net has officially relaunched its legendary home computer as the Commodore 64 Ultimate, rebuilding the classic machine on modern FPGA hardware. We cover it here as a curiosity: it has no direct 3D printing angle, since the case is produced with classic injection molding using the original 1986 tooling, not 3D printing.
