AIM3D ExAM A 510 Targets Aerospace Parts with ULTEM Pellets
AIM3D has adapted its pellet-fed ExAM 510 for aerospace applications. The A 510 variant targets ULTEM 9085 parts and a documented, repeatable manufacturing process.
Pellets instead of filament
AIM3D announced the ExAM A 510 on October 23 as an aerospace-oriented development of its ExAM 510. It processes ULTEM 9085 pellets directly, avoiding an intermediate filament-production step. The company claims a lower part cost than comparable filament-based processes, but that does not automatically establish a lower total cost of ownership.
Process stability and traceability
Working with AM-MRO, AIM3D documented and optimized process parameters to improve consistency across build positions and machines. Changes include a fully heated chamber and monitoring of feedstock temperature, humidity and tamper resistance.
Qualification is part-specific
Aerospace use requires traceable material handling, repeatability, quality assurance and approval for the intended component. A qualified process or adapted printer does not grant blanket regulatory approval to every printed flight part. The company plans to demonstrate the system at Formnext 2026.
