CALIBRA – A Free Measurement Equipment Management System Is Under Development

CALIBRA – A Free Measurement Equipment Management System Is Under Development A new in-house developed web application is joining the growing collection of 3DPS projects. CALIBRA is being developed as a modern, transparent and expandable measurement equipment and calibration management system. Development has progressed rapidly from the original concept to an already functioning web application, with the foundations of company management, equipment tracking, external partner management and auditing now in place.

CALIBRA is free to use

We intend to make CALIBRA available free of charge. However, because the system is designed to manage company and measurement equipment data, access is subject to registration and verification.

CALIBRA is therefore not intended to be an anonymous, completely open service. Registrations are verified before access to the system is granted.

The goal is to keep the service free while maintaining a controlled environment appropriate for professional and company use.

More than an equipment list

One of CALIBRA's primary purposes is to provide companies with a central database for their measuring and inspection equipment.

The goal, however, goes considerably further than storing basic equipment information. CALIBRA is being designed to make the complete lifecycle of an instrument traceable.

Development currently covers areas including:

  • measurement equipment and status management;
  • calibration, inspection and repair records;
  • separate company and user environments;
  • external calibration, inspection and repair partners;
  • comprehensive audit logging;
  • documented restoration of deleted equipment;
  • multilingual operation;
  • role-based permissions and company-separated data.

Auditability is a core principle

One of the fundamental design principles behind CALIBRA is that the history of a measuring instrument should remain reconstructable even years later.

Important modifications therefore generate audit records. These records cannot simply be modified or deleted through normal user operations.

A long-term archiving concept has also been designed. Archived documents can receive a unique archive identifier and a SHA-256 verification hash, allowing their integrity to be checked later.

Calibration laboratories and external partners

CALIBRA is also gaining a dedicated module for external service providers.

Companies will be able to manage partners responsible for activities such as:

  • calibration,
  • inspection,
  • repair

of their measurement equipment.

Work has already started on building a database of calibration laboratories. Imported companies initially remain inactive so their information can be checked before they become available for normal use.

Designed for nine languages

CALIBRA has been designed as a multilingual application from the beginning.

The planned languages are:

Hungarian, English, German, Slovak, Czech, Romanian, Croatian, Serbian and Slovenian.

This goes beyond simply translating the user interface. System content such as categories, statuses and other configurable information is also being designed for multilingual operation.

Development continues on an already working system

A significant part of the foundation is already operational, including the company and user structure, measurement equipment management, administration interface, audit foundations, external partner management, multilingual functionality and the application's own update mechanism.

Development of the mobile interface is also underway, so CALIBRA is not intended to be a system limited to desktop computers.

CALIBRA nevertheless remains under active development. New functionality is being added while existing modules are continuously tested and refined.

What's next?

Upcoming development will further expand equipment lifecycle management, calibration laboratory and partner functionality, auditing, notifications and support for company workflows.

The objective is not simply to create another digital equipment list.

CALIBRA is being built as a system that brings measurement equipment, calibration history, documentation, lifecycle information and external service partners together in one place.

Although we intend to keep CALIBRA free to use, developing, testing and maintaining the system requires considerable time and resources.
