New Project at 3DPS – Anycubic Kobra 3 Toolhead Reverse Engineering

A new long-term development project has officially started at the 3DPS workshop. The goal is to perform a complete reverse engineering of the original Anycubic Kobra 3 toolhead electronics.

New Project at 3DPS – Anycubic Kobra 3 Toolhead Reverse Engineering

A new long-term development project has officially started at the 3DPS workshop.

The goal is to perform a complete reverse engineering of the original Anycubic Kobra 3 toolhead electronics.

However, understanding the hardware is only the beginning.

The final objective is to create an open, Klipper-compatible toolboard capable of reusing the original electronics, sensors and connectors, making it much easier to upgrade and customize Anycubic printers.

During the first stage of the project, several important hardware blocks have already been identified.

Among the first achievements are the identification of the GD32F303 microcontroller, reverse engineering of the communication circuitry, and the discovery of two independent UART interfaces available on the board.

One of the most exciting ideas currently under development is a custom miniature USB-to-UART module designed to replace the factory RS232 transceiver, allowing the original cable to provide direct communication between a Raspberry Pi running Klipper and the toolhead electronics.

What's next?

The upcoming development stages include:

Complete schematic reconstruction Load-cell interface analysis Design of the custom USB communication module Klipper firmware port First fully functional prototype

This is a long-term open development project, and we'll regularly publish new discoveries, measurements and progress reports here on 3DPS.
